Welcome to Conjecture's Rate-A-Panel system!

This web tool gives you, our members, the ability to help shape our convention's panel program schedule.

Our 2008 convention's theme is "Military SF/F" to celebrate the work of David Drake, our Guest of Honor. However, we will also have a strong mix of general-interest topics, so please vote for and suggest topics which fall outside our theme area, as well as those directly connected.

Please check off the topics you would be interested in seeing at Conjecture 2008. After choosing, you may select a new category from the list above, or press the "Vote" button at the bottom of the page to stay within the current category.

While not all these panels will end up in the final program, we'll do our best to ensure that the convention has the most exciting and interesting programming possible.

If you have ideas for additional panel topics, please tell us about them, using our panel topic submission form.

(Do these topics look familiar? Be sure to browse through the other categories listed above.)

Why is Science still Scary?
From Frankenstein to Resident Evil, we love stories where Man Meddles with Things He Shouldn't. Why is this still fascinating? We're living in the future; shouldn't we be used to science by now?

Guerilla Good guys?
From Star Wars to Firefly, we see the formal military as evil and the rag-tag guerilla fighters as the heroes - but can this still be acceptable during the Global War on Terror? Those "heroes" look an awful lot like terrorists, don't they?

Zombie Ninja Monkey Pirate Robots
Why do we want to put every flavor possible into a story? Is it a mental pregnancy craving like pickles and ice cream for the brain?

It's all Connected!
The Tomy Westfall universe, the Wold Newton universe, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Why do we have the drive to braid together story threads from different sources? Is it related to our fascination with conspiracy theories? Or is it just caused by mind-control lasers?

Brave New Uglies
Scott Westerfeld's YA novels, Uglies, Pretties, and Specials, have become hugely popular both on and off school curricula. Stories about a dystopic, conformist future, they are Brave New World for the internet generation. Compare & contrast.
